Color Effect
Color is coded with history, desire, identity, power, memory, and resistance. It divides and unites, seduces, disrupts, obscures, and reveals. Color Effect invites artists to consider color not as decoration, but as a force—one that shapes perception, constructs meaning, and initiates a dialogue. We are seeking ambitious proposals that challenge conventional relationships to color through concept, material, process, and intimate experiences. We welcome work that embraces tension and contradiction: chromatic harmony and dissonance, cultural symbolism and personal narrative, political urgency and poetic abstraction. Whether your practice is rooted in painting, installation, sculpture, photography, performance, video, sound, textiles, or interdisciplinary forms, we encourage proposals that push beyond the expected.
We invite artists whose work is professional. intellectually rigorous, visually compelling, and willing to expand the conversation. Surprise us! Let color lead the discourse! Dali Polivka
Our juror:
Rachel Adams is the Chief Curator + Director of Programs at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. She previously held roles at University at Buffalo Art Galleries, Oregon Contemporary, and The Contemporary Austin. Adams’s practice is centered on fostering meaningful relationships with artists and advancing projects at the intersections of photography, installation, sound, performance, video, new media, and architecture. At Bemis, she organizes interdisciplinary exhibitions, directs the residency program and curates LOW END, the organization’s sound venue, advancing artist-centered projects nationwide.
