Across the Universe: Spring Show 2025 for NWCS Members

• Non-refundable entry fee is $25 for one-to-three entries. Pay online no later than 01/19/2025 by 9pm (note that a PayPal account is not required to use a credit card). Checks must be postmarked by 01/21/2025 and made payable to Northwest Collage Society. Mail checks to Kathryn Kim, 5642 Keystone Pl N, Seattle, WA 98103. Please submit your pieces together. NWCS incurs a cost for each form submission.

• All work must be for sale. Fogue Gallery shall remit to the artist the net proceeds from the sale, less 30% and applicable sales tax within 30 days after closing of exhibit.

• Entries must be original, entirely created by the entrant, and not shown in a previous NWCS exhibit. Both 2-D and 3-D collage artwork will be accepted.

• All entries must be collage, defined as: an artistic composition made of various materials (e.g., paper, photographs, paint) glued onto a supporting surface.

• Do not frame 2D pieces.

• Do not apply hanging hardware to single album covers/jackets.

• The Shows Committee, along with personnel associated with the venue, will attach hardware necessary to hang the pieces. This will be a self-adhesive merchandise tab applied two inches down on the back of the piece at drop-off. By submitting the work, the artist consents and grants permission for such hardware or devices to be attached.

• The size of a typical LP album sleeve is 12.375 inches square although collage on cardboard covers of other sizes and on gatefold-style covers will be accepted.

• A single merchandise tab can support up to 19oz. An empty LP jacket weighs around 3.4oz; a gatefold style that holds one to two LP albums weights 5.4 to 7oz.

• More elaborate 2D pieces may require additional installation considerations. If such a piece is accepted, we will discuss it with you. We are up to the challenge so let your creativity soar!

• There are limited pedestals for 3D work. Free-standing 3D pieces are also acceptable.

• Identify your artwork on the back with a label listing your name, title, and price. Labels are provide on the last page of the prospectus.

• Fogue Gallery reserves the right not to accept artwork it determines to be inappropriate.

• Digital images of selected work will be retained by the NWCS and the Fogue Gallery. NWCS and Fogue Gallery assume permission to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional uses.

• Image submission requirements: JPG or PNG only. Minimum size on the shortest side: 1080px. Maximum file size: 4mb; Minimum file size: 500k;

• File Names: Lastname_firstname_title_framesize(wxh).jpg (e.g.: brown_john_nightoverseattle_24x24.jpg)

• Include The Beatles song or album inspiring the collage in the materials field.

• Use the artist statement field to talk about your approach and provide brief background about you as an artist. Northwest Collage Society may use this information in promotional materials for the show, such as show booklets and social media posts.

• Entry and Awards Juror Jennifer Fernandez. Jennifer Fernandez is a Cuban-American multidisciplinary artist based in Seattle and curator of the vatican, a mini gallery at studio e (another gallery venue on the Georgetown Art Attack map). She is the recipient of the Edwin T. Pratt Scholarship, a grantee of the City of Seattle's Office of Arts & Culture, and has been the Featured Artist at the Frye Art Museum Store.

• Awards 8 awards are given for this show. There are 4 first-tier awards (NWCS Award, NWCS Spring 2025 Award, Peggy Tuttle Memorial Award, and Eleanor Wolters Smith Memorial Award). There are also 4 Merit Awards. All awards are at juror discretion.

• Where to find album covers: Most thrift stores have a vinyl section with very inexpensive albums. A record store with a used section may have surplus jackets from albums too damaged to sell. Fellow members may have a pile in their garage, and if you're in a Buy Nothing group for your neighborhood, you may score covers that way. Keep in mind that these album covers may be dusty, requiring a little surface cleaning for good collage adhesion.
