My Good Brain (MGB) is a San Diego-based arts nonprofit dedicated to promoting mental wellness in youth through art and play. We are excited to open submissions for our 3rd Annual Youth Art Month Student Art Contest, hosted in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month in May 2026.
This year's theme: "You Belong Here: Art for Every Voice"
We're inviting young artists across San Diego to create original artwork that explores what belonging, community, and connection mean to them. What does it feel like to truly belong? Who makes you feel seen? What does your community look like? How does connection help you through hard times?
There are no wrong answers. Only your voice, your story, your vision.
Who Can Enter
Students in Grades 1–12 currently attending school in the San Diego, CA area. Entries are judged within three age groups:
Group 1: Grades 1–5
Group 2: Grades 6–8
Group 3: Grades 9–12
Accepted Media
All 2D visual art formats are welcome, including paintings, drawings, digital art, photography, collage, mixed media, and printmaking.
Entry Fee
$5 per submission. Fees directly support MGB's Tool Kit Program, which delivers free art therapy supply kits to students in need across San Diego.
Prizes
Winners in each age group receive Blick Art Materials gift cards:
🥇 1st Place: $100 | 🥈 2nd Place: $50 | 🥉 3rd Place: $25
