Black Art Matters 2026

This exhibit showcases Philadelphia’s cultural experience as has been shaped by the struggles, triumphs, strengths and successes of its dynamic African American community. Artists do not need to identify as African American or Black but entries must reflect the theme. You may submit UP TO TWO (2) ENTRIES.
- Be sure to describe each work submitted and how it relates to the theme.
- Your Artist Profile Statement should describe your general style of work (not specific to the pieces being entered) and be written in the 3rd person.
- All works of art must reflect the theme of the show and be the work that was submitted to the jury.
- All works of art must be original, done by the artist, and ready to properly present.
- All 2-D art must be framed with wire hangers.
- Artists submitting 3-D art may need to provide their own pedestals.
- Artists wishing to submit art that exceeds 4 ft. wide or 4 ft. high will need to contact MAAG at
[email protected].
- All work must be for sale. All sales are processed by the MAAG Gift Shop, and the commission on work sold during the show is 35%. Sold artwork must remain in the gallery till closing date.
- It is recommended that artists be present at the art reception.
- MAAG does have insurance on exhibited works, which covers the costs of the materials only. All work is insured only for the duration of the show. Any pieces not picked up after the due dates are not insured.
