Open to All current MAA members. This show is the first event of a MAA-Oasis collaboration
Show Location: Washington Metropolitan Oasis and the Oasis Art Gallery are located inside of the Macy’s Home Store at Westfield Montgomery Mall, 7125 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817. The exhibit space holds about 100 artworks (about the same as in our old MAA gallery in Wheaton Mall).
Washington Metropolitan Oasis (https://www.oasisnet.org/Washington-DC-area ) and the Oasis Art Gallery are part of the national non-profit Oasis education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and older through lifelong learning, health and wellness promotion and volunteer opportunities including Intergenerational Tutoring. Oasis brings people together to learn, lead and contribute in their communities.
Weekdays, the Oasis offices and Gallery are busy with Oasis class attendees, registrants, art lovers, as well as Macy Home shopper ‘walk-ins.’
Key Dates:
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 28, midnight
Drop off Artwork: March 7 or 8th; 10 am – 4 pm
Show Hanging: Friday, March 9 at 10:30 am (hangers may bring their entries at 10 am)
Reception: Saturday, March 17, from 2 pm - 3:30 pm.
(We will be presenting a Viewer’s Choice Award at the reception.)
Pick Up Artwork: Monday/Tuesday, May 7/8; 10 am – 4 pm.
Entry Details:
A $10 non-refundable fee covers the cost for up to 3 entries, the maximum permitted per artist.
Only online show submissions from the MAA website accepted. Please follow the instructions located on the Resources page of the MAA website, www.MontgomeryArt.org , 'Registering Your Work Online for MAA Shows.' In submitting your online entry, images are not required--skip the 'Browse' line and hit 'Upload'. Titles and Media should have the first letter of significant words capitalized; prices with a $ and no cents. Please double-check your entry before hitting 'submit'.
Entries submitted must be original work of the artist. The hand of the artist must be visible and dominant in constructing the artwork. Photographic and digitally manipulated images are not acceptable unless they are used in a secondary manner to the artwork as a whole and clearly described in the media description. MAA or Oasis Art Gallery reserves the right to refuse to display any Artwork it deems incompatible with the nature and environment of the Oasis Art Gallery.
Volunteer service, such as with show hanging, reception logistics, bringing refreshments to the reception is needed and strongly urged for this show. By submitting an entry, the artist agrees with the rules of the show as presented.
Works customarily hung must be framed and already attached with screw eyes and wires for hanging. Saw-toothed hangers on frames are NOT acceptable. Paintings on canvas do not require frames as long as the edges are painted or taped. No wet canvases. Works larger than 20 x 28, if not pastels, should be glazed with Plexiglass (or equivalent).
Sales:
Entries must be priced and available for sale. The artist will receive 70% of the selling price with 30% donated to MAA/Oasis. Sold works must remain until the end of the show, except under extenuating circumstances.
Note: Care will be taken by MAA volunteers and Oasis personnel in hanging and securing the show. However, neither Oasis nor MAA will be held responsible for any loss or damage. Artists are advised to have their own insurance.
