Judged Art Exhibit at the Kensington Armory

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• The show is open to artists 18 and over.
• One work must be based on a subject within Kensington--the 20895 zip code.
• Only original works of art will be accepted.
• Each work must be securely framed and ready for hanging.
• No brackets, strings or saw-tooth hooks.
• Works larger than 20 inches x 28 inches requiring glazing must be plexiglass.
• No wet canvases will be accepted.
• Work should have been completed within the last two years and no work will be accepted that has been exhibited in any previously judged MAA Show.
• The hand of the artist must be visible and dominant in the construction of the artwork even when digital tools are used. If a digital piece is not one of a kind, the piece must be numbered as with a limited edition.
• Photography is not accepted.
• Tastefully done nudes are accepted (no explicit views)
The judge and/or show committee reserves the right to reject inappropriate works. Artwork is hung on a space available basis. Works not meeting the guidelines will not be hung.
REGISTRATION, ENTRY FEES, AND SHOW DETAILS
• All registrations must be completed online at www.MontgomeryArt.org. (See Instructions at Labor Day Show/Flyers page.) No handwritten or late entries accepted. No images required.
• Registration help sessions will be held at the MAA Gallery, Westfield Wheaton, Saturday, August 6, 4-8 pm and Saturday, August 20, 3-4 pm.
• Registration: Opens Friday, July 15. Entries must be received by midnight Wednesday, August 24, 2015. No exceptions.
• Entry Fees: Non-MAA Members: $45. Includes the Kensington entry and one additional entry. Additional works are $9 each.
Limit of 6 entries per artist.

• MAA Membership Dues: Will NOT be added to the entry fees for the show registration
By submitting an entry, registrants agree with the following: I am paying all fees and certify that I agree to the rules of the show as presented here. Entries submitted are my own work. I will not hold MAA or the Town of Kensington responsible for any loss or damage to my artwork while on the property.
• Subject Categories: Kensington (one mandatory), Landscape, Portrait (People and Animals), Still Life, Abstract, and 3D.
Use the description field to indicate the category (Kensington, Landscape, Portrait (People and Animals), Still Life, Abstract/3D) for your submission.
• Awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention are given for each category. The first prize winner in the Kensington Category receives the Bertha Clum Grand Prize Award. The awards are cash prizes, gift certificates and other prizes made possible through the generous donations of merchants and business, and the Town of Kensington.
• Bin Work and Card Sales: Non-MAA members may not display bin work or cards for sale.

• Hours: Saturday-Sunday, Sept 3-4, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Monday, September 5, 9:30 to 5:30 PM
• Awards Reception: Saturday, Sept 3, 6:00 to 8:00 PM
• Delivery Dates: Thurs., September 1, 5:00 to 7:00 PM or
Fri., September 2, 9 AM to 11 AM
Be sure that each piece has a label on the Back Top Right that identifies the Artist, Title, Medium, Category and Price.
• Judging will begin promptly at 1 PM on Friday, 9/2. No late entries will be accepted for judging.
• Judge: Jean Hirons. Jean is a painterly realist using soft pastel to create luminous landscapes. A native of New England, Hirons often features its beautiful architecture in her paintings, or the farms of the Mid-Atlantic, where she now resides. Hirons is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a member of the Master Circle of the International Association of Pastel Studies. She also holds signature membership in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod and the Maryland Pastel Society. Her work has been included in many national and international juried shows and her paintings are internationally collected. She maintains her studio at Washington ArtWorks in Rockville.
• Pick up unsold art: Pick up on Monday, Sept 5, 6:30 to 7:30 PM or
Tuesday, Sept. 6; 9:00 to12 Noon.
• Volunteer Task Signup: All artists entering this show must volunteer to assist with the operation of the show in some capacity such as greeters, cashiers, show hanging, soliciting donations, set-up and take down, cleanup, etc.
Go to http://VolunteerSignup.org/PX7R4. Review the list of tasks and click sign up next to the task selected. You may sign up before or after your registration but you MUST help in some way.
• Sales: MAA will process all sales, collect 6% Maryland sales tax, and take a 25% commission from each sold piece. Works that sell are not to be removed until the end of the show, Monday, Sept 5 or Tuesday, Sept 6.
Security: Reasonable care will be taken by MAA and its show volunteers. Neither volunteers, MAA, nor the Town of Kensington will be responsible for loss or damage to artwork on the property. See artist’s agreement under Registration.
