Who Can Apply?

ARTISTS CRITERIA
Artists Included & Focus on diversity, inclusion, and belonging (age, sex, gender, minorities, disability, beliefs/religion, race, class, ethnicity/culture, perspective)
Immigrants (immigrants, children of immigrants) (migrants, anyone that feels they had an immigrant experience. (Any theme)
Allies- talked about immigration in artwork
Experienced or Novice (all welcomed)
Immigrant artists around the globe

All Immigrant Artists will be considered for the virtual exhibit.

We are interested in Immigrant artists and Global artists who use ANY Art Medium (cultural artists, weaving artists, singers, visual artists, cultural artists, silk screeners, painters, quilters, tech/artists, performing arts, photographers, poets, musicians, dancers, writers, fashion designers, animators among others). Open to all materials especially materials used by cultures around the world. Upcycling art is also especially appreciated during these times of worsening climate change.

We wish to be as inclusive as possible and welcome artists from not just all disciplines and cultures but also from all ages, abilities, classes, races, philosophies, religions/nonreligions, sexuality/gender, and walks of life. Whether you are a novice artist or experienced artists, you are welcomed. Whether you are an artisan or a fine artist you are welcomed.

Submission Guidelines
1) Complete the form on entrythingy.
Provide your name, contact details (email), and a link to your social media and website.
2) Collection of personally identifiable information from artists will be solely for the purpose of communicating internally on the collaborative 2021 exhibit and future potential collaborations. Your information will not be sold to third parties.
Provide the title of artwork, type of media/medium, and a brief bio (50-word max).
3) Please include the size of the work and the price of the work.
Each visual artist may enter a maximum of of 3 artworks (1 image each).
Each performance artists/dancers/video artists/mixed media artists can enter 1 video of their work.

4) 1:1 ratio is preferred (Square) 8x8 or 10x10 @ 300 dpi max (Hi Res) For video submissions no more than 5 min.
5) Each selected artist will be asked to submit a photograph of themselves and an artist vision
6) Any writing can be submitted either written or in audio.
7) Any art media accepted (beyond visual arts) Artwork created previously by the entrant but modified for this use is acceptable.
8) Love 4 Immigrants is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of the internet or any website, including uploading issues, injury or damage to artists' or to any other person's computer related to, or resulting from, participating or downloading materials in this platform for the Love 4 Immigrants project and 2021 exhibit.
***Submission past the deadline is disqualified.

Judging Criteria for Artwork
We are not your typical status quo art group obsessed with highart and with mainly highlighting the eurocentric perspective. Yes, quality matters but that can be redefined to be more inclusive and your message, your artist vision and the complexity of your experience is just as important.

CONCEPT CRITERIA
1) Immigrant Joy- amidst difficult circumstances and stories of sorrows, we also hope to focus on empowering stories that show what brings people joy and what there is to appreciate (ex. culture, dance and food etc.)
2) Each Artist?s Artwork Aligns with the Exhibit Theme
Family- Biological and nonbiological kinship bonds, whether legally recognized or not, deliberately chosen for the purpose of mutual support and love. Including love outside a heteronormative world.
Storytelling- The authentic ability to share personal stories of individual, familial, and cultural stories of importance to one's identity.
Memories- feelings, thoughts, memorabilia/objects of the past expressed creatively
3) Complexity of the Immigrant experience- as a whole collective all artists together show the different identities, different locations, & represents different families, cultures or spreading of ideas

***Important Note: Artwork that is not retraumatizing is preferred

We understand artists need to express authentically through the arts so please take the criteria ?Immigrant Joy? with some compassion. We wish for viewers and attendees from immigrant communities to feel uplifted as opposed to having the exhibit create significant mental harm.

Apply to exhibit art or images that represents family or memories. There would also be conversations/interviews with the selected applicants(artists) and tour of studio space.

Your stories of family memories can be defined as you see fit. Family can be biological, non biological or friendship. Your family story and memories can be outside of the heteronormative norm because ?love is love is love?.
Covid-19 forced many of us to be more connected to our families. This time came many gifts but also with its challenge and sorrows. Challenges and mourning can be included but we hope you also share how family support and these memories have helped you have a more joyful immigrant experience in this new country.
