The Loft Artists Association Calls for Astonishing Artworks
Stamford, CT - This year's 11th Annual Juried Exhibition, titled [Gasp!], seeks artworks that defy expectations and provoke astonishment particularly through innovative use of materials. Do your creations inspire viewers to discover unexpected imagery or uncover unconventional materials and techniques?

[Gasp!] celebrates artists who push the boundaries of expression and challenge traditional artistic norms. Artists are encouraged to explore diverse mediums, including everyday found objects to create works that challenge and intrigue. Abstract and representational artworks in 2D and 3D formats, including select installations will enrich the exhibition.

Ellen Hawley, Visiting Juror and Independent Curator, invites artists to submit works that prompt a visceral, spontaneous response. 'We're looking for artworks that make us gasp with surprise,' said Hawley. 'Pieces that compel us to do a double-take and stay with us for a long time.

Submission Guidelines
Open call for all artists. Entry Deadline: September 10, 2024.
The Juror requests that you briefly describe the use of materials in your work. Tell us how your artwork makes us look twice to discover unexpected imagery or uncover unconventional materials.
All Categories: Abstract and representational artworks in 2D and 3D formats, e.g. Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography, Digital Art and Mixed Media.
For sculptures, the maximum height is 6 ft.
Entry is no guarantee of selection.

About Ellen Hawley
Architectural blueprint drawings, mylar, Letraset press type letters, and drafting templates were among the usual art materials for six-year-old Ellen. Today, Ellen continues to channel her passion for art and architecture through a multifaceted career. With over eight years of experience as an independent curator, Ellen has curated notable exhibitions such as GLOW, Home Sweet Home at the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, CT, and Ephemeral Bloom at MAPSpace in Port Chester, NY. At Flinn Gallery, she curates, serves on the Selections Committee, manages social media, and contributes to marketing efforts. Ellen's advertising background spans blue-chip clients like AT&T, IBM, NYSE, L'Oréal in New York, and Ortega Mexican Foods, Dole Packaged Foods in Los Angeles. Her expertise spans client services, brand strategy, new business development, corporate communications, new product launches, and interfacing with creative teams to develop breakthrough multimedia campaigns. Ellen holds a BA from Syracuse University in Art History with a concentration in Architecture and a minor in Advertising. She settled in Cos Cob, CT, almost two decades ago after living in New York, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong with her young family.
