47th Annual 8.9 Peace Exhibition Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan

Organization: LELA International Artists Location International , XX Entry Fee Paid Entry Deadline May 24, 2026 Exhibition Aug 3 - Aug 9, 2026
LELA International invites artists to submit work for LELA's 47th annual exhibition to be held at the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, Japan. We commemorate the dropping of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan in August 1945. LELA is dedicated to providing artists space to contribute works that advocate for peace, denounce war, and condemn the use of atomic weapons.
The selected artwork will first be displayed at the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art for a week before being moved to Nagasaki City Hall, where it will be exhibited from August 18th to August 29th.
The title of this annual exhibit, 47th Annual 8.9 exhibition August 9th refers to the date the bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. It was especially significant to the founder of the LELA Artists group, Mr. Hideo Sakata, a 10 year old native of Nagasaki at the time, survived this horrific event although members of his family did not. Sakata san started the peace exhibitions as an adult to advocate for peace and against war, especially the use of atomic weapons, ever again.
Sadly, Mr. Hideo Sakata passed away in 2023 but his legacy lives on through LELA International with a commitment to his impactful advocacy against war, and especially the use of atomic weapons. We do this by continuing with a powerful art exhibition for peace every year at the Prefecture Museum of Art in Nagasaki, Japan on 8/9, the date the atomic bomb fell on Nagasaki.
Exhibition Dates: August 3 - 9, 2026 at the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art.
