June Steingart Art Gallery at Laney College is now accepting submissions for our Stoked - Wood Fired Ceramics - National Juried Exhibition. This exhibition will be juried by artist and educator Scott Parady, Director of Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project and Ceramic Faculty at California State University, Sacramento. All wood fired ceramic works, functional or sculptural, are eligible. This exhibition aims to highlight the creative community and collective efforts inherent in the wood firing process. The title, Stoked, is a play on the process of firing a wood kiln, and also the excitement of working in community and creating collaboratively. This exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age or older.

June Steingart Art Gallery at Laney College is now accepting submissions for our Stoked - Wood Fired Ceramics - National Juried Exhibition. This exhibition will be juried by artist and educator Scott Parady, Director of Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project and Ceramic Faculty at California State University, Sacramento. All wood fired ceramic works, functional or sculptural, are eligible. This exhibition aims to highlight the creative community and collective efforts inherent in the wood firing process. Non-refundable entry fee of $25 for up to 3 works.
Artists may submit up to 2 detail images for each work
$5 for each additional work
Images must be no larger 5MB

Juror | Scott Parady

Scott Parady is a ceramic artist and educator who has worked with clay for the last thirty years. Scott received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from Pennsylvania State University. Scott is a Full Professor of Ceramics at California State University, Sacramento, where he began teaching in 2003.

In 2014 Scott began building the Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project, an artist residency program on the 80-acre property where he lives with his family. The residency includes opportunities for short and long term stays and accommodates artists at all stages in their development. The facility includes private studios, electric, gas, and woodfired kilns, gallery, space to practice sustainable living, and forest management. He has also taught many workshops around the country and abroad at various universities and art centers.

Scott exhibits his work widely in the US and is internationally recognized for his contributions to contemporary wood-fired ceramics. His work is found in various collections including the Di Rosa Art and Nature Preserve, and Crocker Museum of Art, Trax Ceramic gallery, and the Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project Gallery. His body of ceramic work also includes functional ware created for four of Michelin Star chef Michael Mina's restaurants.

Scott was born and raised in St. Helena, CA and now lives and works on Cobb Mountain CA, North of Napa Valley. Other pursuits include spending time with his wife Lori, three children Elliott, Haley, and Sierra as well as being a steward of his forest property.

Eligibility |

Open to artists 18 years or older.
All work must arrive to the gallery ready to display or hang
Accepted work that differs greatly from that which was submitted will not be shown
No work may be withdrawn before the closing date of the exhibition
Gallery will retain 30% of artwork sold

Shipping |

All work must be packed securely and professionally and be easily repacked.
No packing peanuts!
Blue tape only on bubble wrap
Any work requiring specific instructions for installation must be included
All work must arrive at the Gallery by the stated deadline
Artists must provide a shipping label with the original package or Account number for shipping company.
Gallery is not responsible for work during shipping

Insurance |

The gallery will not insure all accepted work while on premises. Though we will take the utmost care and oversight of all artwork on display, the artist must retain insurance for exhibited works. Work that arrives broken or differing from accepted work will not be displayed and will be the responsibility of the artist.

Artist Agreement; Waiver of Liability

By submitting your art, you are agreeing to the following.

Originality: In consideration of the opportunity to display my work to the public, and other good and valuable consideration, the adequacy and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, I, the undersigned artist, certify that the art that I am submitting is my original art and that I am the author and creator of such art. I acknowledge that The June Steingart Gallery (aka The Laney Art Gallery) reserves the right to accept or deny any submission with or without cause.

Promotion and Publicity: I grant The Laney Art Gallery permission to publish in all media my name, artwork, and location for use in promotion through print media, television, and the internet. I further allow The Laney Art Gallery to release such information to other persons and entities. My name will be attributed to my pieces that are shown by The Laney Art Gallery or other persons or entities.

Responsibility: I understand that The Laney Art Gallery does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to my artwork(s) or the loss or damage to frames or glass, no matter how sustained. Reasonable safety and Laney College security precautions are in place to ensure added protection of my work.
Artwork remains in the gallery until the end of the exhibit: I understand that if my artwork is accepted for the show the work may not be removed from the exhibition until the pick up date described in the Acceptance information/email. It is my responsibility to notify The Laney Art Gallery in writing or by email of a third-party pick-up of artwork at the conclusion of the exhibition.

Sales of Artwork: I agree to donate 30% of the purchase price of the artwork sold to the Laney Art Gallery. The Laney Art Gallery will provide interested buyers with my contact information and/or payment method such as Venmo, Paypal, Check, etc. If payment in the full amount is paid to me, I am responsible for paying the Laney Art Gallery the 15% of the purchase price. I am responsible for all sales transactions and the collection and filing of applicable sales tax. I acknowledge that I have read and understand all terms contained in this document and agree to be bound by the terms and stated expectations.

Waiver of Liability: Once I submit this form electronically or by paper copy, I (the artist), my heirs, successors, and assigns, shall indemnify and hold the The Laney Art Gallery and appointed officers, volunteers, employees harmless from any and all claims, costs and liabilities for any artwork damage, personal injury, death, or other property damage which is the result of handling and displaying the artwork at The Laney Art Gallery. Our partners; employees or contractors are likewise held harmless from any and all claims from the artist, heirs, successors, or assigns from any artwork damage, personal injury, death, or other property damage, and related costs and liabilities, which is the result of handling and displaying the artwork.
