Mark making is the most basic way of communicating between humans. It can be a way to express ideas, images, or thoughts. Cavemen made marks to depict life events with their cave drawings. Egyptians communicated with their hieroglyphic marks. We make marks to communicate in our written language. A mark can be a number or a letter, or it can be just a line or smear. Mark making is, then, making any mark on any surface. But in the artist's hands, it is also about adding details to impart meaning and depth.

And consider this: He made his mark in the art work. She hit the mark with that report. We marked the occasion with a toast. Her marks secured her place on the honor roll. X marks the spot. There is a sign to mark the border. Mark my words. Leave a mark. It is a mark of intelligence.

Juror, David Limrite, will make his selections based on interpretation of the 'Making Your Mark' theme as well as the quality of the submitted work.
