Call for Proposals: Habitat for Humanity Artists Door Project and Gala Event

Location Sacramento, CA Entry Fee Paid Entry Deadline January 13, 2017 Exhibition Mar 24 - Apr 28, 2017
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is proud to present a new and unique element to the 4th Annual Hard Hats & High Heels Gala in collaboration with local, socially-conscious artists. Chaired by celebrated local Sacramento artists, this special element of the Habitat Gala invites interested and selected artists to create artwork on a recycled door (provided by the Habitat ReStore) in the theme of "what home means to you";. Artwork can include, but is not limited to, painting, collage, recycled materials, and more. The door must stay intact and be functional. Artists are welcome to create art on both or just one side of the door, however all edges must be covered for a completed look. Creativity and inventiveness are encouraged.

The doors will be displayed prior to the Gala at ArtHouse on R for public viewing as part of their Second Saturday event in April and then auctioned off at the Gala event to over 400 attendees including Mayor Darrell Steinberg and other notables on Friday, April 28th.

The unique project invites participating artists to celebrate their talents while making a statement and bringing attention and support to the importance of affordable homeownership opportunities in our local community.

Participating artists will receive one event and one VIP reception ticket to the event, a small stipend to cover the cost of supplies needed to paint the doors, and the opportunity to keep 25% or 50% of the auction sale price of the door (or donate 100% to Habitat as a full tax write-off).

All participating artists must submit this online RFP, 2-3 sentences about the choice of the subject matter on the door, and a sketch of the proposed design, and be approved by our judges panel. 6-10 finalists will be selected to participate.

All doors must be complete and ready to be premiered by March 24th.

Jurors: William Ishmael, Pamela Skinner, and Michael Dunlavey.
