GSWS 8th Annual Art Installation 2026

Organization: Garden State Watercolor Society Location Middletown, NJ Entry Fee Free Entry Deadline March 12, 2026
Theme: Revolution as Reinvention
American art is not a static tradition; it is a 250-year history of friction and defiance. This installation explores the disruptive power of the artist, focusing on five iconic artists whose paintings —at pivotal moments in our history—shattered the conventions of their era to fundamentally alter the American cultural landscape.

The Challenge:
We invite 2026 GSWS members to join this visual conversation. Your challenge is to seize the familiar and make it entirely new. We are looking for work that honors the history of artistic rebellion through bold color and radical reinvention. Don't just copy or replicate the past—reimagine it for the modern world. Every entry should be a modern reimagining. Whether through style, subject matter, or medium, your work should reflect a "radical reinvention" of the original source material. Prove that the most American act an artist can perform is to take a classic and transform it into something unexpected.
