The Fiber Artists of San Antonio (FASA) is proud to present: Viriditas: Flourishing Life Energy our 2026 Juried Exhibition. Selected works of art will be on exhibition at the University of the Incarnate Word's Semmes Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, from November 9 through December 11, 2026.
About the Theme
Viriditas—drawn from the writings of the 12th-century mystic and visionary Hildegard von Bingen—is a Latin word meaning “greening power” or the life-force that animates all living things. This year’s exhibition explores the concept of vitality, renewal, and the sacred energy of the natural world through fiber and textile-based work. It will showcase works that celebrate the breadth and diversity of fiber art while honoring the profound symbolism of Viriditas—the flourishing life energy that sustains both nature and human creativity.
FASA’s annual art exhibition will be held November 9 to December 11, 2026 at the Semmes galleries at the University of Incarnate Word (UIW), San Antonio, Texas. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 2–4 pm. There will be over $1,200 in cash prizes for art awarded at the opening reception. This call is open to all continental United States artists working in fiber and textile media. Artists are encouraged to submit works that interpret this theme in innovative and meaningful ways.
Meet our Juror
The 2026 exhibition is juried by Jane Dunnewold who has taught and lectured internationally. She is widely recognized for her contributions to contemporary fiber art and surface design. Her honors include the Quilt Japan Prize, the Gold Prize at the Taegue International Textile Exhibition in Korea, and the 2025 Mastery Award from 108 Contemporary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was named Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art League in 2019, and her archives were acquired by the International Quilt Museum in 2020. Dunnewold is founder of the Creative Strength Training community, a columnist for Fiber Art Now, and author of more than a dozen books, including Complex Cloth (1996).
