Transfigure: Transformation as a Revolutionary Act
Calling all queer artists from the Mid-South region to participate in 'Transfigure,' a juried art exhibition and series of events that explore the multifaceted journey of queer metamorphosis.
This group exhibition takes place in June 2024 at Fenix Gallery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. An artist-run space, Fenix hosts a range of group and member exhibitions throughout the year and is a hot spot for visual arts in Northwest Arkansas.
'Transfigure' seeks to illuminate the boundless potential of self-discovery, resilience, and authenticity within queer communities.
At the heart of 'Transfigure' lies the notion of transformation as a revolutionary act. Drawing inspiration from the etymology of the word 'transfigure' - to change in form or appearance - this exhibition delves into the intricate tapestry of queer lives and histories, showcasing the remarkable power of metamorphosis in shaping personal narratives and collective consciousness.
All mediums are welcome. We encourage submissions that reflect the myriad ways in which queer individuals and communities have defied societal expectations, transcended limitations, and emerged as agents of change.
Juror:
Amber Imrie (they/she) is an artist, curator, and educator. They were born and raised off-the-grid in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas. Largely home-schooled throughout their childhood, Amber attended school for three years before testing out at age sixteen.
Amber has a BA with honors from UC Berkeley and was awarded Excellence in Sculpture upon graduating. Amber has an MFA from Stanford University and was awarded the Anita Squires Fowler Award in Photography. From 2014 - 2017 Amber founded and was curator of Venison Magazine, an online contemporary art magazine, and Camp Venison, an art micro-residency. Amber has been an artist in residence and exhibited work nationally and internationally. Imrie was awarded the Murphy Cadogan award in 2017 to foster further exploration of her artistic potential in hybrid practice. She was a finalist for both the Summer SOMA residency and the Headlands Graduate Fellowship Award in 2018.
Amber became a founding member of The Alternative Art School in 2020. Since 2021, Amber has served on several jury panels for fellowship and exhibition open calls.
