Theme Global Warming is REAL: Resilience

As the 10-year anniversary of the Global Warming is REAL exhibition approaches, we are prompted to revisit our original intentions for this event. We began by celebrating artists who found a venue for impactful creative expression. Early scientific warnings about humanity’s impact on the planet were largely met with skepticism. Today, however, media and scientists highlight not only unfolding realities but also the remarkable resilience of nature, humanity, and the planet in adapting to change.

This year, we aim to focus on optimism. We invite artists to draw inspiration from the resilience found in themselves, in nature, and in our communities—emphasizing connection, adaptability, and hope as key creative drivers for this exhibition. The exhibit will be shown at the Museum of Encaustic Art in New Mexico. Entrants may opt to only participate in the online portion of the exhibition. In that case, you will not ship your work to us. Your work and statement will be posted online, and if sold, the artist will ship directly to the buyer.

This exhibition is open to all expressions, as each person's need to create on this theme is personal. Our hope is that the subject matter is open and receptive to the good news from the collective, positive approach we face as a country and planet. The juror will select works based on how well they interpret the 'Global Warming is REAL: Resilience' theme and the overall quality of the submitted artwork.

EXHIBITION DATES: Sept 12 - Nov 1

OPENING RECEPTION: Sept 12 (noon - 3 pm)

FEES: Entrance fee for current Encaustic Art Institute members is $30. For non-EAI members, the fee is $35.

Commission fee: EAI takes a 50% commission fee on sold artwork.

Artists have the option to ship their work to be shown in the in-person exhibition held in the Museum of Encaustic Art and shown online - OR - may choose to have their work shown only in the online version of the exhibition.

WHO MAY ENTER: This is an in-person AND online juried exhibition, open to encaustic/wax artists, whether they are members of the Encaustic Art Institute or not.

WHAT TO ENTER: Any artwork created using wax-based media in 2-D or 3-D form is acceptable to submit for consideration by the juror as long as it is wax-based and relates to the theme 'Global Warming is REAL: Resilience'. Wax-based media include: ALL forms of encaustic, hot or cold wax, and encaustic mixed media (with any combination of media).

Entrants may enter TWO (2) images of different artwork per entry for review; however, only one (1) piece per artist may be selected for the exhibition. Entrants have the option to include (up to 3) detail views of each entered artwork(s). If you are submitting only one piece for consideration by the juror, ONLY include the main image and the optional 1-3 detail views of that piece; do not include more images of the same piece.

Diptychs and triptychs count as one piece - submit a single image of a diptych or triptych. Detail (close-up) views (up to 3 details) of each of your submitted pieces are allowed.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS:
* Background: For 3-D pieces: white/black/or neutral background. For 2-D pieces, crop the image tightly to the edges of the piece, with no background showing.

* File Format: Save all images JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png)

* Image specifications: We request that the images be high-resolution, saved at 300 dpi. (Minimum dpi: 150 dpi).

Image dimensions: 1600 px (minimum) wide

File size up to 25 MB

SIZE LIMITATIONS on accepted work: For 2-D artwork: 24 x 24 inches equivalent (or under). For 3-D artwork: 20 x 20 inches equivalent (or under)

ARTIST STATEMENTS: Entrants are required to submit a brief statement (50 words minimum, 250 words maximum) describing how their work relates to the theme of the exhibit.

The EntryThingy system labels this field 'description of entry' or 'description of piece' and limits it to 260 characters. If the length of your statement is longer than what EntryThingy allows: type in 'statement sent separately' in this field. Then, email to [email protected] a Word doc, or Pages document of your text to us. Do not send PDF file(s). We will forward it to the juror to read with your entry. Be sure to include your entry number (as generated in EntryThingy - instead of using your name) with this statement. This document should not be more than 250 words and should absolutely NOT include any identifying personal information, as all entries are to be submitted anonymously to the juror. If you are submitting more than one work, you may send separate statements for each piece. Include the title of the piece that goes with each statement if you are sending more than one statement. Statements sent separately from the EntryThingy entry must be received no later than midnight on July 27, when entries close.

EDITING YOUR ENTRY: If at any point after you have submitted your entry through EntryThingy, (but prior to the closing date for entries) you realize you need to edit or adjust anything in your entry, contact [email protected] with your request to change the status of your entry. We will set your entry status to not submitted, which will allow you to return to EntryThingy and make your edits. When you're finished, submit your entry to complete the process.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All work in this exhibition MUST BE FOR SALE and REMAIN eligible for sale from the time the entry is submitted until the close of the exhibition.

We strongly suggest that you do NOT wait until the last day to submit your entry. You should allow yourself enough time to familiarize yourself with the EntryThingy system before the deadline so you don't run into problems close to it. Please give us (and yourself) at least a one-day cushion in case you need to correct something, or we need to contact you to clarify something in your entry.

When preparing your entry, make sure that your name, title, caption information for each image, dimensions, and price are all correct. Whatever information you use on your entry will be what we use to create your label on the website, publicize and sell your piece (should your entry be accepted by the juror) - be sure the information in the entry is correct and final.

If you use a different name as your 'artist' name - enter your name as you wish it to appear on any publicity material, our website, your gallery label, etc., when you submit your entry.

If you have a different email address/name associated with the PayPal account or credit/debit card you use to pay your entry fee, contact us right away ([email protected]) with that information so we can credit your entry fee.

Be sure that the email address you use on your entry/profile is one that you currently use and check regularly. This is the email address we use to contact you and send the juror result notification.
