The Art of Abandonment explores abandoned and rediscovered objects, locations, and structures. Through the captured image, we can glimpse the memory of ourselves: and our surroundings and preserve them before being lost to time and place. What do these structures and ephemera convey about humanity as we leave them to decay? What is the essence of time and place, and whom or what are we abandoning? The Art of Abandonment is an international open call for photographers ages 18 and older. All forms of two-dimensional images, traditional and non-conventional media, and conventional or alternative photographic processes with a subjective analog or digital photographic base are welcome for submission.

All entrants, by virtue of their submission, are attesting that the images submitted are their own work and there has been no copyright infringement of any artist, living or deceased.

All submissions must be original and completed by the artists hand. If work is part of a limited edition, please include the number of the edition.

Submissions and Acceptance

Approximately 35 images will be selected by the Curator, Director, and Juror(s) for exhibition in The Chateau's Online Gallery (TCG). Participants will be notified of their selection approximately 10 days after the deadline. Selected participants will also be listed on our website home and exhibition page. Accepted work will be hosted on TCGs website and promoted on social media throughout the scheduled programming. Submissions not selected for the exhibition are categorized into themes and stored for one year for consideration in future exhibitions. Please do not include your name, watermarks, or personal information.

Sales

Participants who have priced their work for sale will be contacted promptly regarding any purchase inquiry of their work. Participants will retain 70% from sales. TCG will retain 30% commission on any work sold through TCG and its agents. Artists will be responsible for fulfillment of sales and any additional costs. Participants may list their work Not for Sale (NFS). However, participants are encouraged to price their work.

Copyright and Usage Rights

The artist retains all rights to their work at all times. By submitting your work, you grant the gallery a limited license to use your images for promotional materials and/or promoting related programs and display on our website, social media and online exhibition archive. All selected work will be maintained in our online gallery archive. The artist's name and photo title will be included and they will receive attribution whenever possible. The exhibition and participating artists will be marketed and promoted extensively through our website, press release announcements, email marketing campaigns, online event calendars, and social media.

Submission Fee

A $15 entry fee is required and used to support advertising, promotional materials, and administrative costs. In addition to keeping costs and sales commissions low, we have a limited number of fee waivers for artists experiencing financial hardships, and offer free services to citizens of Ukraine.
