Art in the Park: Rochester Lilac Festival 2021

Welcome! Please make a note of the following important instructions:

1. This is a two-step application process:

Step 1: Complete the online application and upload your photos.

Step 2: Print, sign and mail the completed application with the proper fees and self addressed stamped envelope. (Any Body Care and Packaged Food applicants must also include a Certificate of Insurance with minimum limits of one million dollars.)

2. You may apply in two categories, but they must be related and cohesive, such as Glass and Jewelry (made of glass only). You must apply separately with a separate set of photos for each category.

3. Returning Artists: upload three close-ups of recent work and one image of your booth.

4. New Applying Artists: you MUST mail in with your application an additional image of you in your workshop showing work in the process of being made. DO NOT UPLOAD.

5. You will be asked to enter your statement. Please try to limit your statement to no more than 5 sentences and should be a description of the process and materials used in creating your work.

Remember, your application is not complete until you print, sign and mail your paperwork.

HOW OUR JURY SYSTEM WORKS
- Applications are accepted and processed as they come in until the postmark deadline.
- All the applications received are then included in the jury, which takes place a few days after the postmark deadline.
- Five respected local artists in different fields meet at the jury to review and score all the entries.
- It is a blind jury; meaning that the entries are identified only by their artist number (eg. C-10) to the jurors. The jurors do not know who you are, whether or not you have been in the show before, where you live, etc.
- All entries are judged individually by category.
- The jurors are looking at the three images of your work, along with their descriptions, and your booth image. It is extremely important that you have good close-ups of three representational pieces of your work and a booth image that shows your outdoor booth well-lit, unobstructed, with sides and back down, so that only your booth is shown. Descriptions are also required and very important. Do not include images of your workshop, etc with these jury images.
- Although jurors may discuss your work amongst themselves, they individually rate each entry from 1 to 10.
- After the jury, scores are tallied. There is a minimum score of 25 to be accepted.
- However, in several categories and subcategories (eg. jewelry or tie-dyed clothing) there is a limit on the number of artists accepted. Only the top scoring artists up to this limit are accepted. This is done to ensure balance in the show for the patrons of the festival and also to not dilute sales for the accepted artists in any one category.
