Montgomery Art Association invites all current members to participate in our MAA Show at the Art Enables Gallery. This show is the first of an MAA-Art Enables collaboration.


Show dates: March 9th - May 4th.

Show location: Art Enables is located at 2204 Rhode Island Ave, NE., Washington, DC 20018, a block south of South Dakota Ave.

Media eligible for exhibition: Oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, pastel, encaustic, drawing/ink mediums, and 3D works that can easily be wired with picture hooks and hung on a wall. Photography is not included in this show.

Number of pieces allowed: Members may submit up to three (3) entries. If your artwork is large, please enter only one (1) piece, as space is limited in the gallery.

Entry fee: A $10 non-refundable fee covers the cost for up to 3 entries.

Entry deadline: NOTE: Entry has closed as of February 11, 2019 because submissions are full. Thank you.

Note: The exhibit space holds about 30 to 40 artworks. If the number of entries exceeds
the gallery capacity prior to the deadline, priority will be given to earlier entrants.
Best to register early!

Entries submitted must be original work of the artist. The hand of the artist must be visible and dominant in constructing the artwork. Photographic and digitally manipulated images are not acceptable unless they are used in a secondary manner to the artwork as a whole and clearly described in the media description. MAA or Art Enables reserves the right to refuse to display any Artwork it deems incompatible with the nature and environment of the Art Enables Off Rhode Art Gallery.

How to register: We only accept online registration on our website. Please familiarize yourself with our registration instructions on the Resources page of the MAA website-- Registering for MAA Shows.

Some notes about registration:
--Titles of artwork: Please use title case, capitalizing the first letter of significant words in the titles of your piece. (Example: Still Life with Pears.)
--Media Please use title case, capitalizing the first letter of significant words. (Example: Oil on Canvas.)
--Prices: Use a dollar sign and numerals, no cents. (Example: $175.)
--Images: Images of your artwork are encouraged but not required. By uploading images of your works, you agree to allow MAA to use those images for the purpose of promoting this event in digital and print materials.

Key Dates:

--Registration Deadline: Friday, February 15, 11:59 ET
--Drop off Artwork: Tuesday March 5 and Wednesday, March 6: 10 am to 3 pm each day.
--Show Hanging: Tuesday March 5 and Wednesday, March 6. (Hanging volunteers may bring their entries on that day at 10 am.)
--Reception: Saturday, March 9 from 4-6 pm (There will be light refreshments and wine provided.)
--Pick Up Unsold Artwork: Tuesday May 7 or Wednesday May 8, 10 am to 3 pm each day.

About Art Enables: Art Enables manages and programs two distinct gallery spaces at the 2204 Rhode Island Avenue location. They offer a variety of exhibitions and shows throughout the year.

Studio Gallery
The Studio Gallery exhibits, year-round, the work of Art Enables resident artists. Big, bright, and spacious, the Studio Gallery highlights the talent, creativity, and artistic expression of each of the artists. The Studio Gallery, located on the first floor, is also home to the artist studio space and our community-based workshops, events, and activities.

Off-Rhode Gallery
The Off-Rhode Gallery at Art Enables is an auxiliary arts space dedicated to local, emerging, and self-taught artists. Exhibiting both small group shows by Art Enables artists as well as artists from across the broader DC region, the Off-Rhode Gallery seeks to showcase dynamic, rich, and provocative work in a spacious yet intimate venue.

Show promotions: In addition to marketing this show through the usual MAA channels, the show will be promoted through all of Art Enables channels as well.

Volunteer service, If you are able, one or 2 folks could be used to help hang the show. Art Enables staff will be handling the hanging logistics and could use some assistance.

Artwork Hanging: Works customarily hung must be framed and wired for hanging to professional standards. Use D-rings and weight-appropriate wire that is not visible when the painting is hung. Paintings on canvas do not require frames as long as the edges are painted or taped to professionally standards. No wet canvases, saw-toothed hangers, flimsy framing is acceptable. Works larger than 20 inches x 28 inches, if not pastels, should be glazed with Plexiglass (or equivalent).

Note: Care will be taken by MAA volunteers and Art Enables personnel in hanging and securing the show. However, neither Art Enables nor MAA will be held responsible for any loss or damage. Artists are advised to have their own insurance.

Sales: Entries must be priced and available for sale. The artist will receive 60% and 40% to Art Enables...price your art accordingly. Art Enables will manage the sales. Sold works must remain until the end of the show, except under extenuating circumstances. Art Enables will hold Sold artwork for buyer pickup.
