Local amateur and professional artists aged 18 years and above are welcome to apply. Artists must meet the Cultural Arts Commission's definition of a local Coronado Artist. A local artist is anyone who meets one of the following criteria: 1) Lives in Coronado, 2) Work, teach, or own property in Coronado, 3) Operate a gallery or studio in Coronado, 4) Current member of the Coronado Art Association. Preference may be given to artists who live in Coronado. Three-dimensional works must fit in exhibit cases. All mediums will be considered for this exhibition and artwork submitted must fit in the cases in the gallery. Weight of individual artwork shall not exceed 25 pounds.
Process
Applications to exhibit artwork in the C3 Gallery will be accepted through Friday, December 4, 2026 at 5 pm. All complete applications received by the deadline will be juried by the Selection Committee of arts commissioners, visual art professionals, and/or artists. Selection criteria may include but may not be limited to: quality/merit of work, diversity, medium of work. Final acceptance for inclusion in the exhibition will be subject to review and approval of the actual completed submitted artwork. All artwork accepted must be suitable for all audiences which include young children who regularly visit the Community Center. Exhibition/display dates cannot be given or transferred to another person or organization. Exhibits cannot be changed after being installed without the permission of the CAC Visual Arts Commissioner and the CAC Arts Administrator. Applicants selected to exhibit will be notified no later than January 8, 2027, and should be available to deliver juried artwork for installation by Wednesday, January 20, 2027.
Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered. There is no fee to enter for this exhibition.
Artist Requirements
1. Artist must be 18 years of age or older and meet eligibility requirements as outlined.
2. All artworks must be original and the work of the registered applicant. May not be an alteration of another’s work or assembled from a kit.
3. The artist must submit an application and a minimum 1 (but no more than 10) jpegs of pieces of work that are representative of items to be displayed in the exhibition.
4. The artist must provide accurate information for each artwork exhibited listing: title, media, year, artist name, price or NFS (Not for Sale), phone number, email, and website, if applicable.
5. Artist is responsible for the delivery and pickup of their artwork at agreed upon date and time.
6. All two‐dimensional artworks must be framed or mounted and ready to hang with current gallery hanging system. All works must have the artist’s name, title and medium affixed to the back of every work entered in the exhibit.
7. The artist must publicize and promote the exhibit and if possible, attend the opening reception in the Coronado Community Center. This includes publicizing the event to their clients, contacts, public and on their social media.
8. The artist shall complete the City of Coronado Waiver of Indemnity and Liability releasing the City of any liability from artwork damage, loss or theft.
Artist Sales
Income from the sale of art goes to the artist. There is a 20% commission payable to the City of Coronado which supports the City’s Cultural Arts Commission Visual Arts exhibitions. The exhibition program is a service to artists and exists to promote the local artist community. Artists are encouraged to be flexible in their pricing. Art sales are by mutual agreement between the artist and purchaser. Please note that work that is sold must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
Opening Reception
An opening reception is scheduled for this exhibition on February 4, 2027 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The reception is open to the public and free of charge.
Promotion and Advertising
General promotion will be provided by the City and CAC to local media outlets, CAC website, CAC Arts Partners, and social media. Exhibiting artists are strongly encouraged to market to outside outlets, family, friends and client lists to publicize and promote the exhibit and Opening Reception.
Cancellation
The Cultural Arts Commission reserves the right to suspend or cancel any exhibit should conditions warrant such action.
Upon Submission of an Entry:
The undersigned does hereby indemnify, defend and hold harmless the City of Coronado, The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission, their elected and/or appointed officers, officials, agents, employees, volunteers and subcontractors from and against any and all causes of action, claims, liabilities, obligations, judgments, losses, or damages, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs of litigation (“claims”) arising out of, or in connection with, the participation of the undersigned 2026 C3 Gallery Exhibition, “Windows” excepting only loss, injury, damage or cost that arise out of intentional wrongful acts, violations of the law, or the sole and active negligence of any of the above named entities.
