Jazz Got Loose at The Gallery at the Attucks
Call to Hampton Roads Artists
Deadline to Apply: August 12, 2025. No fee to apply.
The Attucks Theatre invites artists to submit work for Jazz Got Loose, a landmark exhibition opening Fall 2026 at The Gallery at The Attucks—a space where visual art and performance meet.
Jazz Got Loose at the Attucks celebrates a musical tradition born in New Orleans’ Black communities—an art form that grew from blues, ragtime, and African rhythms into a bold, boundary breaking force that shaped American culture. Jazz fueled social change, challenged segregation, and carried the voices of artists like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Nina Simone as they redefined freedom and identity. At the historic Attucks Theatre—once home to legends from Cab Calloway to Nat King Cole—that legacy now expands into the visual arts, inviting contemporary artists to carry its spirit forward.
If your work embodies the spirit of jazz—improvisational, textured, vibrant, abstract, expressive, open to interpretation, rhythmically unexpected, colorful, fluid, layered, organic, kinetic, resonant, nuanced, bold, unapologetic, mood setting, immersive—we invite you to apply.
Eligibility
Artists 18+ with a connection to Hampton Roads.
Medium
Contemporary works in any 2D or relief visual medium not exceeding 50 lbs.
Selection
Jazz Got Loose will be selected by vision driven Delegate Jackie Glass.
