This application serves as your mural proposal submission and is due by Monday, May 4, 2026 at 5 PM EST.

The NoMa Business Improvement District (NoMa BID) in Washington DC is seeking LOCAL talented individuals or teams to submit a
design proposal to create a large outdoor mural as part of the 2026 NoMa In Color Mural Festival, taking place this year between September 9 and September 20, 2026. The Public festival week takes place between September 11 and 18th, 2026. Artists are given extra day for preparation and completion. Individual or Teams submitting must live in the National Capitol Region. International or artists living in other parts of the country are not eligible for this call.

The NoMa in Color Festival is a central part of NoMa BID’s initiative to install public art to foster greater community, beautify the neighborhood for residents, workers and visitors to enjoy, and to support our local businesses and creative entrepreneurs. Each year, NoMa in Color offers artists of varying skill levels a chance to learn from and network with their peers while creating impactful artworks that are loved by our neighborhood and the DC public at large.

Up to 18 artists will be selected to paint large-scale outdoor works. along the public-facing WMATA (Metro) wall of the Metropolitan Branch Trail
(MBT) that runs along Alethia Tanner Park in Eckington (227 Harry Thomas Way, NE, Washington DC) and at adjacent locations within the NoMa neighborhood.

For your submission, you will be asked to supply contact information, a resume, CV or artist statement, up to three (3) images of recent past work (minimum 2), up to two (2) images for your 2026 mural proposal or one (1) image each if you have two separate designs to propose. For each mural design, you will be asked to write a description and narrative about why your design should be painted in NoMa. These images can be a detailed sketch with color palette included, or a digital design. If you use AI to submit these designs, you will be asked for more information. We cannot wait to see what you submit!
