Zoot Suiter | PACHUCO Art Show

The Zoot Suiter | PACHUCO Art Show celebrates a lifestyle that has defined a cultural revolution for nearly 100 years. The theme explores the Pachuco lifestyle, which emerged in the 1930s as a response to the expectations and exclusion faced by Mexican-Americans. The Zoot Suit and its components visually represented this iconic lifestyle, which embraced distinctive fashion, music, slang, and automobiles. Participating artists will exhibit their shared passion for the Pachuco lifestyle through a variety of mediums.

Online submissions are welcome from international and local artists, and all will be featured in the online show on Artsy and the gallery website. Only artists from the Bay Area in California are eligible to exhibit in the physical show at 1202 Contemporary in downtown Gilroy. The exhibition runs from July 19 through September 7, 2024. The opening reception is July 19 from 5-9pm during the Third Friday Art Walk, featuring live music, refreshments, and a car show. The closing reception is September 7 from 1-4pm.

Entry fee is $25 with a $10 media fee. Submit 5-10 images and up to 2 videos of your work, along with a short bio and artist statement. Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister residents can use their zip code for a $10 discount on the application fee. Commissions on sold work are 20%. Artwork can be shipped to the exhibition but must be picked up at the end of the show at artist's expense. Artwork does not have to be for sale to be included.
