About This Call
The Canada in a Changing Climate: National Assessment Process is seeking youth in grades 7-12 to create visual art about climate change. This call for art aims to celebrate youth perspectives and creativity in response to a changing climate and inspire classroom conversations. Artists are asked to tell a visual story about their perspectives on climate change, exploring questions such as: How have you experienced climate change in the world around you? How do you think these experiences will change in the future? What makes you hopeful? What inspires you to take action against climate change?
Artistic exploration can address four subthemes: (1) The climate we live in, now and in the future, including changes to temperature, precipitation, sea level, droughts, floods and wildfires; (2) The way we live, now and in the future, exploring how climate change impacts communities, health, environment and economy; (3) Our health, now and in the future, including impacts from extreme heat, wildfires, air and water quality, mental health, infectious diseases, and food safety; (4) Pathways to a just and equitable future, exploring climate justice and equity. Some art submissions will be showcased on changingclimate.ca or in the Canada in a Changing Climate: National Assessment Process report series. Winning submissions may also be showcased in an online and/or in-person exhibit.
Eligibility is open to youth attending schools in Canada, grades 7-12, including a separate Indigenous stream. Group submissions are welcome. Submissions must include a high resolution electronic image (JPEG/JPG or PNG, minimum 300 dpi, at least 3300 pixels on the long side and 2550 pixels on the short side), a title, and a brief description (maximum 100 words) of how the art relates to one of the subthemes. Required fields include name, school name, school grade, age, and parent/teacher email. Submissions are accepted through CaFÉ (Call For Entry and Application Management for the Arts). Entry deadline: April 22, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
