Yountville Veterans Memorial Park Sculpture Call for Artists

The Town of Yountville is seeking a sculpture for permanent display in Veterans Memorial Park as part of the town's Public Art Walk. The Veterans Home of California~Yountville, the largest Veterans Home of its kind in the country, shares a deep history with the community. The Veterans Memorial Park is undergoing renovation and will reopen in early 2017 with a fresh look and larger emphasis on being the "Veterans Memorial" Park. The selected sculpture will be the most prominent feature alongside newly placed flag poles, concrete inscriptions and interpretive signage.

The Town is calling all outdoor sculpture artists to submit entries. The sculpture must be one-of-a-kind and embody the spirit of United States Military Veterans past, present and future. The budgeted commission is $20,000, which includes design, construction and installation. The selected artist will receive a $20,000 stipend to assist with creation, transportation and installation expenses. A deposit of $10,000 will be made upon award of the contract, with the remaining $10,000 upon successful installation. Sponsorship funding will be considered by the Town for projects requiring additional support.

Artwork must be constructed of materials that can withstand outdoor elements including sun, rain, dust and wind for a minimum of 20 years without heavy maintenance. Sculptures must be structurally safe for public display with no potential to cause injury, and all components must be securely fastened. The Town wishes to complete the project within the 2017 calendar year or as mutually agreed upon. Artists are encouraged to become familiar with the park space and suggest potential installation sites. Submissions must include a description of each work including dimensions, weight, title, medium, date of construction, and cleaning and maintenance instructions. Sculptures will be juried on artistic merit, artistic context, content in relation to theme, maintainability and suitability for public display. The jury will consist of members of the Town Council, Yountville Arts Commission, Veterans Home of Yountville and the public at large.
