About This Call
Opening in June 2022, the Staten Island Museum will present Yes, And: a survey exhibition of art and artists connected to Staten Island. This exhibition continues the Staten Island Museum's longstanding tradition of holding juried art shows for more than 70 years. The theme Yes, And suggests the abundance of experience and perception of Staten Island, a borough containing a multitude of narratives that cumulatively offer an impression of life in the United States. The title references a classic improv rule-of-thumb requiring performers to accept what another participant is suggesting and then build on it, presenting an expansive theme for artists to consider and encouraging the open sharing of ideas and perspectives.
All visual media will be considered, including paintings, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and new media. Artists featured in Yes, And will be chosen by a selection committee. Eligibility requires that the artist must have a relationship to Staten Island (live or work, family, frequent visitor, etc.) or have made work about Staten Island. Portfolios must include at least two pieces made within the last three years. Artwork created must be original work, not commercially produced, and must not infringe on copyrighted content of any other party. Selected artists will be required to sign a loan agreement for their artworks. Chosen work may not exceed 6 feet in height and 5 feet in width and cannot weigh more than 150 pounds.
Selected artists will receive a stipend for participation in accordance with W.A.G.E. (Working Artists and the Greater Economy) standards. All artists will receive written notice in March 2022 once final selection has been made. The exhibition runs from June 10, 2022 to February 19, 2023. Applications must include a resume, artist statement, and work samples (minimum 5 images, maximum 10 images; up to 5 audio files and 5 video files may also be submitted). Applications will only be accepted via CaFE.
