About This Call
The City of Palmdale seeks artists and artist groups to activate the newly developed Gathering Plaza at Sam Yellen Park through performance engagement. Located at 5100 E Avenue S in Palmdale, the park includes futsal courts, a dog park, multipurpose sports areas, playgrounds, and a small event plaza. The city invites artists from all cultural backgrounds to submit performances that are meaningful, authentic, culturally appropriate, and resonate with the diverse fabric of the Antelope Valley community.
The all-inclusive budget for this project is $18,000, covering the artist fee and all expenses related to design, development, transportation, lodging, and performance. Selected artists will receive a $450 stipend to submit a detailed performance proposal. Artists must reside in Southern California and obtain a current City of Palmdale business license. Insurance is required, with coverage limits potentially increasing based on performance type. Performances are scheduled for weekends in September and October 2025, with exact dates and times coordinated with selected artists.
Proposals must include a performance concept outline, performance schedule, detailed list of materials and props, and documentation of the artist's performance history and experience. Performances must be original, family-friendly, suitable for all ages, and cannot depict sexual conduct, sexually explicit nudity, or advertise illegal activities. Community input emphasized the value of local landscapes including desert, Joshua trees, yucca trees, poppies, and the lake. Applications must include a resume, 6-10 examples of previous work (video preferred), 3 professional references, and a statement of interest. Application deadline: June 21, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
