About This Call
"Wyoming Veterans in Focus: Oral History and Photo Exhibit Project" is a partnership between Wyoming Veterans Affairs, Wyoming State Parks, Wyoming State Archives, and the Wyoming Arts Council. The project aims to showcase the backgrounds, stories, and inspiration behind Wyoming soldiers' service through portraiture and oral histories.
This call is open only to Wyoming photographers. Those with current or former military experience are encouraged to apply. Work samples should demonstrate ability and experience with portraiture, with a cohesive body of work that allows participants to express themselves authentically. The selected photographer must provide their own transportation and travel accommodations for each photo shoot, as well as all equipment and setup including backdrops and lighting. Project partners will coordinate logistics for each shoot.
Approximately 5-8 community photo shoots and oral history sessions will be held around the state throughout summer and fall 2025. The complete set of 36 portraits must be delivered to the Wyoming Territorial Prison by April 15, 2026. Photos will be printed and mounted to foam core prior to delivery and framed on site. Applicants must submit up to ten work samples (up to two may be detail images), an artist's statement, and verify eligibility. Work must have been created within the past 5 years. Eligibility requires being at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, a Wyoming resident living in the state at least 10 months per year, and not affiliated with the Wyoming Arts Council or Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.
