About This Call
The Wyoming Arts Council will award up to three fellowships to honor excellence and creativity in theatre direction, dance choreography and design for the stage by Wyoming residents. Directors, choreographers and designers (lighting, costume, scene, publicity, etc.) are invited to apply by submitting samples of their work performed in the last five years. Requirements vary depending on the category applied for. Performing Arts Fellowships were reinstated by the WAC in 2002 to recognize outstanding achievements of Wyoming performing artists and operate on a four-year rotation schedule among Music Composition, Theatre & Dance Performance, Music Performance, and Theatre Direction, Dance Choreography and Design for the Stage.
All work samples must be from the past five years. Applicants may submit up to 6 work samples total, which may include video, still images and documents. Names must be removed from all performances and documents as WAC uses a blind judging process with out-of-state jurors. Video and audio samples must conform to CaFE requirements.
All applicants must submit a curriculum vitae focusing on dance or theatre work, a written statement explaining concept/choices/process for submitted works (approximately one page), an artistic/biographical statement, and copies of reviews from works within the last five years. Choreographers must submit videos of a minimum of 2 works (up to 5 videos) and a document explaining their process. Directors must provide letters of recommendation from at least two individuals familiar with their work, videos of 2 or more directed shows if available, and process documents for each show (approximately 200 words per statement). Designers may submit in one or more categories (lighting, set, and/or costume design) with specific requirements for each: digital images or videos of theatre work from 2 separate shows, plus light plots, renderings, or sketches as applicable.
Eligibility requirements: Must be at least 18 years old; domiciled in Wyoming for at least 10 months per year since July 1, 2013; remain a Wyoming resident until June 30, 2016; not a full-time student pursuing high school, college or university theatre- or dance-related degrees; not have received a fellowship within the last four years or since the last time this category was offered (2010); may receive a total of two fellowship awards in their lifetime; must be a U.S. citizen or have legal resident status; may not be affiliated with the Wyoming Arts Council as a board member, staff member, or family member; and may not be an employee of the Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.
