About This Call
The Wyoming Arts Council (WAC) Artist Roster seeks to value artistic excellence and engage the public as patrons and advocates for the arts. Roster artists represent artistic excellence and become ambassadors for the WAC. Libraries, art centers, museums, organizations, schools, and festival presenters can write grants to use the talents of roster artists to enhance their public activities and programs. The roster gives a WAC "stamp of approval" to accomplished artists and serves as a resource to Wyoming communities seeking talented artists for festivals, performances, workshops, studio tours, talks, demonstrations and programs. A roster directory is created annually and posted online. A new WAC Artist Roster is developed every year, with artists selected through a rigorous panel process that rates applicants on artistic criteria including artistic professionalism, presentation, expression and subject matter.
Artists in all disciplines are eligible to apply, including visual arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, craft, graphic design, printmaking, installation and media), literary arts (prose, poetry, theatrical scripts and screenplays), and performing arts (music, theatre and dance). Folk and traditional arts are also eligible. Work samples must be submitted digitally through CaFÉ and should be current, no more than three years old. Visual artists submit up to six digital images; performing artists submit two to four performances showing three to five minute segments with audience response; literary artists submit up to 25 pages depending on discipline; composers submit two scores with recordings; designers submit up to six digital images of no more than three productions; choreographers and theatrical directors submit two compositions or plays showing five minute sections. Applicants who upload visual or audio work samples must also upload two recommendation letters addressing presentation and programming.
WAC staff will review all material to verify requirements are met. One panel of peers will score artists from one to five, considering artistic expression, subject matter, professionalism and presentation. Panel recommendations will be forwarded to the WAC Board for final approval at the February 2014 meeting. All applicants will be notified in writing of the final decision in March 2014. The new WAC Artist Roster will be effective July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015. A WAC Roster Artist must live in Wyoming as their permanent residence 10 months out of the year. Once accepted onto the roster, artists are carried forward for five years, unless they no longer wish to continue or move out of state. After five years, roster artists are asked to reapply.
