Wylie Municipal Walking Trails Phase 3 Public Art Commission

The City of Wylie is seeking professional artists to create realistic sculptures for the Municipal Walking Trails, located in the Texas Blackland Prairie region. This multi-year project will feature sculptures scattered throughout the expansive trails, which currently encompass three miles with plans for further expansion. A dog park and splash park for children have been added to the trails.

Works should reflect creativity, resilience, hope, and remembrance through sculpture honoring the Native American tribes that historically hunted the Blackland Prairie, including the Caddo, Comanche, and Wichita. These tribes relied on the white-tailed deer for sustenance and utilized it for clothing, shelter, tools, and weapons. An archeological dig performed in 2009 prior to city complex construction has produced research reports available to assist artists.

The budget for each of the two projects is $60,000, which includes artist's fee, travel during fabrication and installation, Texas Certified Engineering Plans, materials, base construction, fabrication, transportation, documentation, insurance, permit fees (waived), and lighting. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, current resume (not to exceed 3,000 characters), 10-15 images of previous relevant work within the same budget range as .jpg files labeled with artist's last name, image number, and title, an annotated image list with details for each work, and three professional references with phone and email contact information. Applications are open to professional artists age 18 and over located in the continental U.S.A., regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, or physical or mental disability. City of Wylie employees and selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible.
