About This Call
Wrong Side of the Tracks is a national juried exhibition for metalsmiths of various craft backgrounds to create a piece of jewelry or sculptural object that speaks to the symbology of the railroad in the United States. Although there is no material requirement, works should be in conversation with the long history of metalsmithing. The exhibition runs from July 8 to September 24, 2022.
Eligible media include functional or sculptural works that reflect the long history of metalsmithing, such as traditional metalsmithing materials (silver, copper) or non-traditional materials (plastic). Fine art media such as painting, photography, and lithography are not eligible unless incorporated into an otherwise eligible media. Decorated furniture, candles, pressed flowers, handmade reproductions, and objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are not eligible. All artists age 18 and older are encouraged to apply. Entry fee is $35.00. Submit at least one image (maximum three) along with an artist statement about why your piece is in line with the call.
Juror: Christine Clark is an artist living and working in Portland, OR, focusing on public art, installation art, and abstract sculpture in steel, steel wire, and mixed materials. She is a two-time recipient of the Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship Grant and has been awarded residencies including the John Michael Kohler Arts and Industry residency and the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. She is a former Professor and Head of the Metals department at Oregon College of Art and Craft. Awards: Best in Show - $500; Honorable Mention - $200.
