About This Call
Worn By the Sea: A Sea Glass Art Exhibit celebrates the beauty and symbolism of sea glass—from literal use of found glass to abstract evocations of its color, shape, and meaning. Tumbled by surf and sand, sea glass emerges from the ocean as a transformed object with softened edges and deepened opacity. What began as refuse becomes artifact, and perhaps, becomes art. These fragments, shaped by nature's rhythm, reflect resilience, memory, and renewal. Set against the backdrop of a coastal summer, the exhibit invites viewers to consider how even discarded things can return to us as objects of wonder.
Eligible works may include mixed media art incorporating sea glass, mosaic, assemblage, sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking inspired by coastal themes, and sea glass jewelry presented as fine art. Artists of all levels—including students, hobbyists, and community members—are encouraged to apply. Submissions that explore sea glass as a metaphor for environmental renewal, memory, or loss are particularly welcome. Only artwork of professional presentation will be accepted. Wall-hung items must be appropriately framed with sturdy wire hanging systems; no saw-tooth hangers or metal eyelets are accepted. Three-dimensional works must be stable to stand independently or submitted with adequate display stands, and cannot exceed 4 feet in height by 3 feet in width, weighing no more than 75 pounds.
Entry fee is $25 for up to 6 artworks. Submissions must include an artist statement, images/media of each piece, and artist bio. Each artist may submit up to 6 artworks. No nudes, defamatory, or suggestive portrayals will be considered. Shipping or drop-off of accepted work to Monmouth University is the responsibility of the artist. Entry deadline: July 15, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
