About This Call
Works on Paper 2023 is the 25th Annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences. The competition welcomes entries of original work created within the last two years that explore varied media utilizing paper. Works on Paper can include drawing, painting on paper, hand-pulled prints, photographic prints, digitally created artwork displayed as prints, and paper constructions that may be wall hung. The Juror for 2023 is Marilyn Symmes, an independent curator based in New York City with extensive expertise in prints, drawings, and photographs.
The Juror will select 65 artworks to be on display in the gallery. Three cash prizes and three honorable mentions will be awarded: $500 first prize, $250 second prize, $100 third prize. Artists do not have to be present to receive their awards. A printed catalog of selected artwork is planned to accompany the exhibition. Exhibition dates are May 20 - July 4, 2023.
Eligibility: Artists 18 years and older residing in the continental USA. Two-dimensional works should not exceed 60 inches in width and height, and not exceed 10 lbs. Work may not project beyond 18 inches in the third dimension. All works must be suitably framed, firmly wired, and professionally presented with black, white, or natural wood frames. All paper must be displayed framed and protected under acrylic. Entries must not have been previously exhibited at LBIF. All accepted works must be available for the duration of the exhibition and are required to be for sale. LBIF retains a 40% commission on all works sold during the exhibition. Entry fee: $35.00 for up to 3 entries (non-refundable). Submission deadline: April 16, 2023. Submit 1-3 images (JPEG format, 1200 pixels minimum on longest side, under 5 MB).
