Words Matter: Found, Created or Imagined

Words Matter: Found, Created or Imagined is a juried photography exhibition exploring the power of words and how they affect perception. The call invites photographers to submit work that explores how words change how we feel or perceive the world around us. Images submitted do not need to include words but should address the idea of how words alter the human experience. Work may include titles, captions, or short statements to express, explain, or alter a narrative. The exhibition is open to street photography, conceptual work, and all forms of photographic image-making in any process or technology, current or historical.

Artists of all levels who are at least 18 years or older are invited to enter. The entry fee is $35 for the first image and $10 for each subsequent image. Artists may submit up to 15 photographs. Current RICPA Members receive a 20% discount on the entry fee. Work must be your original creation and exhibition ready, with a maximum size of 48 inches including the frame. Multiple pieces (diptych, triptych, etc.) may be combined to make up one work.

The exhibition runs June 15 through July 14, 2023 at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, 118 N. Main Street, Providence, RI. The opening reception is June 15 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Accepted work must be delivered by June 10. Jurors are John Femino, Gershon Stark, and David DeMelim. Awards: First Place $150, Second Place $100, Third Place $50. The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts retains a 40% commission on works sold (20% for Supporting & Exhibiting members).
