About This Call

Woodstock AIR is a residency program for US-based artists and critics/scholars/curators of color working in photography. The program provides access to facilities, financial support, critical and technical support, and housing. Each year CPW offers seven residencies for artists of color and one residency for a curator/critic of color. Residencies are one month in duration and occur from May through September, with two residencies available per month.

Residents are provided with workspace, housing, stipends for food and travel, and honoraria. They have 24-hour access to CPW's facilities, including a Digital Lab with iMac workstations, film scanners, and inkjet printers; a Black-and-White Darkroom with enlargers and processing equipment; a library with over 1,400 photo-related texts; and photographic equipment including DSLRs, medium format cameras, and large format view cameras. Residents reside in a two-bedroom furnished house within walking distance of CPW with private room and shared bath, kitchen, and common space.

Eligibility is open to artists and critics/scholars/curators of color working in photography and related media who currently reside in the United States. Former Woodstock AIR participants and individuals who will be students in fall 2017 may not apply. Residents are required to donate a finished work to CPW's Permanent Print Collection. Applications require submission of 15-20 digital images and/or up to 3 videos, a residency proposal answering three questions about plans and goals, a 250-300 word bio, a 500-word artist statement, resume/CV, contact information for two professional references, and a $10 processing fee. Critical Studies Residency applicants must also submit two writing samples of no more than 1,500 words each combined into a single PDF.
