About This Call
The University of Wyoming announces Wood Soda Salt, an exhibition celebrating atmospheric firings in ceramics. The exhibition invites ceramic artists from around the nation to submit works fired in atmospheric kilns (wood, soda, or salt). This exhibition celebrates the diversity of atmospheric firings and the newly built wood kiln and soda kiln at the University of Wyoming. The exhibition will be juried by Kait Arndt, Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics at the University of Wyoming.
Up to 3 entries may be submitted per artist. All works must be primarily ceramic; mixed media works are accepted only when clay is the dominant material (75%). Both utilitarian and sculptural ceramics are welcome. Pedestal works should weigh no more than 50 lbs and wall hanging pieces should weigh no more than 30 lbs. Each entry requires one digital JPEG image (no more than 5 MB, no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side). Artists must provide: name, title, medium (type of clay, other media, and firing method), size (H x W x D inches), year completed, and a brief artist statement. Entry fee is $15.
Selected artists will be notified by August 9th, 2024. Work must be received by August 26th, 2024. The exhibition runs September 3rd through November 29th, 2024. Awards will be given to selected finalists: $500 for Best in Show, $300 for Second Place, and $200 for Third Place. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to the gallery; the University of Wyoming will provide return shipping after the exhibition concludes. The University of Wyoming reserves the right to use images of selected artwork for marketing and publicity purposes without compensation. Sales will be coordinated directly between artists and buyers, with 100% of sales going to the artist.
