About This Call
The WJA Student Scholarship awards up to $33,000 annually to student scholarships with multiple winners in each category. This year includes the WJA-Gabriel Love Foundation Student Scholarship in partnership with Gabriel & Co., a $5,000 scholarship established to help provide funding for students to achieve professional growth within the fine jewelry industry and in their communities. Consideration will be given to students who can clearly articulate a desire to participate in charitable efforts or how they will use their career in jewelry to improve communities.
Scholarships are awarded in three categories: 1) Designer & Creator Category for students in studio jewelry programs applying with finished pieces they designed and created themselves; 2) Designer Category for students in jewelry design programs applying with designs (CAD or drawings) that are not finished pieces; and 3) Non-Designer Category for those studying to become bench jewelers, gemologists, appraisers, retailers, or watch makers.
Designer & Creator and Designer Category applicants must submit: a short essay explaining why they wish to pursue a career in jewelry or watches and their goals/aspirations for the future; three digital images ranked by significance with brief descriptions indicating materials used, size, and significance of each piece. Non-Designer Category applicants must submit an essay of no more than 5000 characters (approximately 1000 words) addressing: the program they are applying for assistance with, what motivated them to attend, why they deserve the scholarship, why they wish to pursue a career in jewelry or watches with future goals, and how the jewelry industry will benefit from them receiving the scholarship. This scholarship is open to women students only. Entry fee: $10.00. Three images required (Designer & Creator and Designer categories only).
