About This Call
Women to Watch is an exhibition program that features underrepresented and emerging women artists. This iteration focuses on paper as the medium—works must incorporate paper in part or in whole. The exhibition will showcase the transformation of paper into complex works of art, demonstrating the broad range of possibilities of paper art, from delicate suspended cut-outs to dense built environments, innovative technology, and traditional methods.
Eligibility: Women artists currently living in Kansas or Missouri, within 150 miles of Kansas City, MO. Artists must submit a one-page resume, one-page artist statement, up to ten images of five to ten works, and an image checklist (including titles, dates, media, and dimensions). Three to five artists will be selected from submissions. A studio visit with each selected artist will determine the actual works for the exhibition. There is no entry fee.
Entry Deadline: Friday, March 1, 2019. Notification: Friday, March 15, 2019. Exhibition: June 14 – September 15, 2019 at Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO. Selected artists will have the opportunity to be considered by curators from the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) for the national Women to Watch 2020 exhibition. Artworks submitted must be available from June 1 – September 30, 2019. Juror: Erin Dziedzic, director of curatorial affairs, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
