About This Call
Women & Their Work (W&TW) seeks women artists living in Texas to create innovative contemporary art for solo exhibitions. The organization looks for strong, consistent aesthetic vision and work that demonstrates capability to create a powerful solo exhibition for approximately 1,700 square feet of gallery space. Recently created work in all media will be considered, and selected artists are strongly encouraged to create new work for their exhibition; no work previously exhibited in Austin will be accepted.
Eligibility: Women artists living anywhere in Texas who have not had a solo exhibition at W&TW within the past ten years are eligible. Emerging, mid-career, and established artists are invited to apply. Applicants cannot currently be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education. W&TW uses an inclusive definition of "woman" and welcomes any artists who identify as women in a way that is significant to them. Women of color are especially encouraged to apply.
Applications require 10 work samples (6-10 images and up to 4 videos of time-based work), a one-page artist statement (up to 3000 characters), a current resume or CV, and a $15 processing fee. Selected artists receive a $1,500 honorarium, a modest honorarium for a Curatorial Advisor of their choosing, a published color catalog with commissioned essay, a six-minute video of the artist discussing their work, and optional public programming. The gallery space is approximately 1,700 square feet with 10.5 feet high ceilings, track lighting, six moveable walls, and available projectors, media players, and sound equipment. Artists receive 75% of sale prices for any work sold during their exhibition. Applicants will be notified by email by February 17, 2020. Contact: [email protected] or (512) 477-1064.
