About This Call
Women & Their Work seeks applications from women and nonbinary artists living and working in Texas for seven-week solo exhibitions occurring March 2026 through July 2027. The organization looks for artists who create innovative, contemporary art that breaks new ground in its approach to form, content, and ideas. Selections are based on evaluation of work samples submitted and ideas proposed, with preference for a strong, consistent aesthetic vision. Recently created work in all media will be considered. Selected artists are strongly encouraged to create new work for their exhibition at W&TW; no work that has previously been exhibited in Austin will be accepted. The work in the application should demonstrate capability to create a powerful solo exhibition that can command approximately 1,700 square feet of gallery space.
The gallery space features approximately 1,700 square feet with 12-foot high ceilings, track lighting, and two moveable walls. Projectors, media players, and sound equipment are available. The jury panel is comprised of W&TW artist alumnae Shana Hoehn and Vicki Meek, as well as curator Claudia Zapata. Applicants will be notified by email by February 19, 2025.
Selected artists receive a $3,000 honorarium, a modest honorarium for a Curatorial Advisor of their choosing, a published color catalog featuring a commissioned essay and images of the artwork, a six-minute video of the artist discussing their work, and assistance organizing a public program during the exhibition. Artists receive 75% of the sale price of any work sold during their exhibition. Women & Their Work will insure artwork while in its custody; artists are responsible for transportation to and from the gallery. Application fee is $20. Applicants must submit 10 work samples (6-10 images and up to 4 videos), an artist statement (maximum one page/2000 characters), a proposal for the solo exhibition (2000 characters), a resume or CV, and proof of Texas residency. Applicants must be living and working in Texas at the time of application and expect to remain in the state through the exhibition season. Women artists who have not had a solo exhibition at W&TW within the past ten years are eligible. Applicants cannot currently be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education.
