About This Call
Women & Their Work (W&TW) seeks women artists living and working in Texas to apply for solo exhibitions in the 2024-25 season. The organization is a nonprofit arts institution that has supported contemporary art created by women for 45 years. Applicants must be living and working in Texas at the time of application and expect to remain in the state through the 2024-25 exhibition season. Women artists who have not had a solo exhibition at W&TW within the past ten years are eligible. Emerging, mid-career, and established artists are invited to apply; women of color are especially encouraged. Applicants cannot currently be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education.
W&TW seeks artists who create innovative, contemporary art that breaks new ground in approach to form, content, and ideas. Selections are based on evaluation of work samples and proposed ideas, with preference for strong, consistent aesthetic vision. Recently created work in all media will be considered. The organization strongly encourages selected artists to create new work for their exhibition; no work previously exhibited in Austin will be accepted. Work should demonstrate capability to create a powerful solo exhibition commanding approximately 1,700 square feet of gallery space.
Applications require 10 work samples (6-10 images and up to 4 videos of time-based work), a one-page artist statement, a proposal describing aesthetic vision for the solo exhibition, a current resume or CV, and a $15 application fee. Selected artists receive a $2,000 honorarium, a modest honorarium for a Curatorial Advisor of their choosing, a published color catalog with commissioned essay, a six-minute video of the artist discussing their work, and optional public programming. Artists receive 75% of sale prices for work sold during their exhibition. The gallery space is approximately 1,700 square feet with 12-foot ceilings, track lighting, two moveable walls, and available projectors, media players, and sound equipment. W&TW insures artwork while in its custody; artists are responsible for transportation. Applicants will be notified by email by December 5, 2023.
