Within Sight or From Imagination

Gearbox Gallery invites submissions to its 2023 Juried Exhibition, Within Sight or From Imagination. The exhibition invites work that is imaginative, observational, and/or introspective, encompassing internal and/or external worlds and the intersection of these worlds. Artists are invited to submit artwork that reflects their interpretation of what is real, imagined, hoped for, or the intersection of internal and external worlds.

Eligibility is open to Northern California artists over the age of 18. BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ artists are encouraged to apply. Entries must be original work created between 2019 and 2023 in any media. Works must be able to be delivered through a standard size doorway and include title, medium, year, and specific dimensions. Work must be framed (when applicable) and ready to hang. The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable), and up to 3 images or media files may be submitted per application. Online submissions through CaFÉ for Artists are not considered complete until payment is received by the deadline of Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 10 pm Pacific Time Zone.

Two prestigious awards will be given: the Juror's Award provides an opportunity to be featured as a guest artist in a two-person exhibition at GearBox Gallery in the following year; the GearBox Gallery Award provides an opportunity to exhibit in the Inner Room at GearBox Gallery in the following year. The juror is Jeremy Morgan. Accepted artwork must be hand-delivered to GearBox Gallery at 770 West Grand Ave, Oakland, CA between noon and 4 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023. The exhibition runs August 10 – September 9, 2023. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of accepted artwork. Artwork sold during the exhibition will result in GearBox Gallery retaining 40% of the sale price, with payment to the artist within 30 days of the close of the exhibit. A 25% referral commission applies to sales made up to three months after the exhibition ends if directly resulting from the gallery display.
