About This Call
The Wisconsin Center District (WCD) seeks to commission artists or artist teams to create original public artworks for the WCD Expansion Project located at 400 W. Wisconsin Ave in Milwaukee, WI. A selection panel of community members, arts professionals, artists, and WCD representatives will select and recommend artists or artist teams for each of the opportunities outlined in this Request for Qualifications.
Opportunities include: 3D Suspended Sculpture and 3D Exterior Sculpture ($250,000 - $450,000) and 2D and Low-Relief Wall Mounted Opportunities ($10,000 - $100,000). Eligibility is open to regional, national, and international artists. The anticipated total budget for all artwork opportunities is $1.5 million, with final amounts determined during the commissioning phase based on proposed projects.
Public art goals include developing a collection that presents a bold vision, enhances visitor experience, curates a sense of place reflecting Milwaukee's characteristics and culture, engages visitors of all backgrounds, and represents a diverse collection of artists with a focus on regional work. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance, using highly durable, low-maintenance materials. Finalists are encouraged to consult with professional fabricators and/or conservators. Work sample requirements: 10 images (required), 0-3 videos (optional), for a total of 10-13 samples.
