Winter Wit: The Funnier Side of Art

Crooked Tree Arts Center invites Michigan artists to submit work for the Winter Wit exhibition, which will focus on light-hearted and comedic references—celebrating humor in all its forms, including comedy, satire, wit, and more. The center welcomes work across all mediums, encouraging artists to explore the playful, absurd, and clever aspects of art. As winter sets in, the exhibition aims to lift spirits and showcase the power of humor to entertain, provoke thought, and bring warmth to the coldest months. The exhibition will be on display in Traverse City's Cornwell Gallery from January 14 - February 22, 2025, with $1,000 in awards.

This opportunity is open to Michigan artists 18 and over. Artists may submit up to three entries (1-3 images per entry). Works must be original, created and completed within the last three years, and must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center. Both 2D and 3D work are eligible. 3D wall-hanging works should not exceed 40 inches in any dimension or weigh more than 50 pounds. 3D freestanding works should not exceed 8 feet in height and 4 feet in width. All work must arrive assembled and stable for safety. Diptychs and triptychs are allowed but must be submitted and priced as one piece. The entry fee is $30.00 per artist ($20.00 for CTAC members, free for Guild members).

Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center between December 16-21, 2024 (Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm, Saturday 10 am-4 pm; evening hours by appointment). Artists are responsible for transporting work via shipping or in-person drop-off. Shipped work must include a return shipping label. Unsold artwork must be picked up between February 24-March 1, 2025. Works delivered with return shipping arrangements will be returned within 2 weeks of the exhibit's end. Crooked Tree Arts Center galleries are sales galleries with a 40% commission on all sales. Works do not have to be for sale.
