About This Call
The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design is administering the Windgate Fellowship Award program. The program will award $15,000 fellowships to ten graduating seniors from applicants nominated by 55 partner colleges and universities. A panel will review applications and recommend 10 fellowship recipients and 2 alternates based on the following criteria: 1) work that demonstrates a balance of content and design and a mastery of materials; 2) work that is in some way informed by craft process, materials, traditions, and/or sensibilities; 3) a demonstration of innovation and curiosity, commitment to growth in their work, and evidence of how their work might stimulate creative thinking or dialogue among other artists; and 4) feasibility of the proposal.
Applications must be submitted online through CaFE in digital format. Required materials include: 10 digital artwork images (completed within the last two years, with date, title, and materials noted on each); a brief description of proposal (40 words or less); a description of what you want to do and how this will advance your work (250 words or less); contextualization of your work/proposal in relation to personal development and artistic influences (250 words or less); a detailed budget outlining proposal expenses including time, travel/lodging, registration/fees, and other materials; a short timeline for the 18 months to complete the proposal beginning May 1, 2008; and two letters of recommendation. A match is not required for this grant. If expenses exceed $15,000, indicate other income that will support the proposal.
