About This Call
The Allegany Arts Council announces the 21st Annual Wills Creek Exhibition (WCE), a juried competition held in the Saville and Schwab Galleries in downtown Cumberland, Maryland. The exhibition features $4,000 in cash prizes, with $1,500 awarded for Best of Show. Artists of all mediums and genres are encouraged to apply. Accepted media categories include: ceramics, digital art, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, new genres, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video, and wood.
The exhibition theme is "Shelter," exploring both physical refuges and psychological, emotional bonds. Shelter is defined as protection, cover, and safety, as well as home and personal space. The theme considers how climate change, public health crises, and migration have redefined our understanding of shelter, and how homes have become multifunctional spaces for living, working, schooling, and caring for family members.
Work must be completed in the last three years and not previously shown in the Saville Gallery. Work must not exceed 48" in any direction including the frame. Entry fee is $30.00 with a $10.00 media fee. Submit 1-6 images. The exhibition runs August 29 - September 26, 2020. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 6-8 pm, with awards presented by juror Jessica Beck at 7 pm. For more information, contact 301-777-ARTS (2787).
