Willis Case Golf Course Public Art Commission

The Denver Willis Case Golf Project Selection Panel is seeking a Colorado artist or team of Colorado artists for a site-specific public art commission at Willis Case Golf Course, located at 4999 Vrain St. (I-70 & Tennyson) in northwest Denver. Construction for a new clubhouse will begin in May/June 2008, with completion in summer 2009. The 18-hole municipal golf course features panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, including Pikes Peak, Mount Evans, and Longs Peak on clear days.

The new 12,000 square foot clubhouse will have a Mediterranean appearance with stucco walls and Spanish tiles. Potential art locations include the foyer area, Golf Hall area, restaurant walls, entry porch, terrace area, clerestory windows, and landscape islands. Artwork must be highly durable, extremely low-maintenance, and capable of withstanding Denver's severe weather with hot summers and heavy winter snowfalls. Finalists will have the opportunity to spend time at the site with members of the Design Team to identify possible locations for the artwork.

Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaboration. The total contract award is approximately $20,000.00, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency. Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a letter of interest of no more than 250 words. Semi-finalists (up to four) will receive an honorarium of $500.00 to prepare and present a final proposal. The entry deadline is Friday, April 18, 2008. Semi-finalists will be selected by Friday, April 25, 2008, with finalist selection on Friday, June 6, 2008, and finalist notification on Friday, July 4, 2008.
