About This Call
GearBox Gallery invites entries in any medium for WILD/MIND, an exhibition exploring two fundamental sides of being human – wild being the animal, primal, instinctual side; mind being the logical and abstracting side. One connects us to nature, animals, the planet, to the universe. The other enables us to separate, to analyze, assess, conceptualize, create. Artists are invited to submit work that addresses the intersection of instinct and intellect.
Eligibility is open to artists over the age of 18 and living or working in Northern California. Entries may be of any media and created between 2012 and 2016. There are no size limitations, however works must be able to be delivered through a standard size doorway. Up to 3 entries may be submitted per application with a non-refundable entry fee of $35. Work samples may include up to 6 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). All entries must include title, medium, year, and specific dimensions. Work must be framed (when applicable) and ready to hang or display. Artists must provide means of display for audio or video works. Artwork must be hand-delivered to GearBox Gallery in Oakland, CA if accepted for exhibition.
The exhibition will be juried by George Lawson, principal of George Lawson Gallery. Awards include: Juror's Award ($100 and opportunity to be featured as a guest artist in a future GearBox Gallery exhibit), Juror's Honorable Mention ($75), Honorable Mention ($50), and GearBox Gallery Award (opportunity to exhibit in the Inner Room). Exhibition dates are August 4–27, 2016. Accepted artwork must be delivered July 31, 2016 between 11am–5pm. Artists will be notified of selections by email on July 12, 2016. Artwork pickup is August 28, 2016 between 11am–5pm. Artists assume all liability for artwork during the show's dates. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, GearBox Gallery retains 40% of the sale price. If sold within three months after the exhibit as a direct result of the gallery display, the artist agrees to pay a 25% referral commission.
