About This Call
Wild Lands: A Call for Alternative Photography invites artists to picture the significance of wild lands using alternative photographic processes. In 2024, marking the 100th anniversary of the Gila Wilderness—the first wilderness established in the United States by Congress in 1924—Light Art Space, located in Silver City, the gateway to the Gila Wilderness, seeks submissions exploring this theme.
All submitted works must be hand-made prints created using alternative photographic processes including but not limited to silver gelatin, platinum/palladium, albumen, cyanotype, gum bichromate, wet-plate collodion, photogravure, carbon, Vandyke brown, and traditional printmaking processes. Digital negatives may be used in creating prints, but straight inkjet (digital) prints and AI-derived works are not eligible. All entries must be created within the last 4 years and hand-printed by the artist. Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang; framing is not required, and magnets, clips, and other methods can be used. Artists must include instructions for alternative presentations. Light Art Space invites LGBTQ, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and self-identifying artists of color to submit.
Entry fee is $35 for 3 images, with $5 for each additional image up to 10 images total. Students receive a $20 discount with coupon code stu20. Juror: Christina Z. Andersen. Important dates: June 23rd (midnight Mountain time) submission deadline; June 28th notification of acceptance; July 22nd work due at gallery; August 1st opening day; August 2nd reception 5-7 pm; October 5th final day of exhibition. Sales are encouraged; Light Art Space retains a 50% commission on any artwork sold. All artwork remains in the exhibition through October 5th, 2024. Artists 18 years of age and older are eligible.
